Housing & Belonging
Stay in the city you call home
You shouldn’t need a lottery win to have a home in Vancouver. The teachers, nurses, tradespeople, small-business owners, families, and seniors who make this city work should be able to build a life here.
Here’s how Rebecca will make it easier for people to stay and build a life here.
-
Public land is one of Vancouver’s best tools for creating lasting affordability.
Rebecca will work with community land trusts and community organizations to build more co-op and community housing while keeping public land in community ownership.
-
Some people need more than a front door.
Rebecca will support housing that connects residents with mental health and addiction services, case management, and employment and training services.
-
Unnecessary delay makes housing more expensive.
Rebecca will simplify and speed up the development process so good housing can get built sooner.
-
Too many Vancouverites earn too much to qualify for deeply subsidized housing and nowhere near enough to comfortably afford the market.
Rebecca will use public land to build permanently affordable homes for middle-income earners, with not-for-profit childcare included in new developments. Homes for the people Vancouver can’t afford to lose.
-
Faith-based communities own land across Vancouver, and many want to help address the housing shortage.
Rebecca will make it easier to redevelop qualifying sites into mixed-use communities with new homes.
-
Rebecca will better leverage the Affordable Housing Endowment Fund and pair it with City land to build affordable homes.
-
Growing older shouldn’t mean leaving your friends, neighbours and community behind.
Rebecca will support new approaches to seniors housing, including Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities, that help people age in their communities.
-
Housing is about more than the number of units we approve.
Rebecca will make sure new public housing is planned alongside the things people need: childcare, schools, public spaces, healthcare and community services.
-
Everyone deserves a home that is safe and dignified.
Rebecca will work to replace unsafe SROs with affordable supportive housing.
A city this good shouldn’t be this hard. let’s get it working again - Together.
