Former Vancouver mayor and councillors endorse Rebecca Bligh for mayor
October 2, 2026 — Vancouver, B.C. — Former Vancouver mayor Mike Harcourt and former city councillors Peter Ladner and Geoff Meggs endorsed Rebecca Bligh for mayor, bringing together support from across the city’s political parties ahead of the October 17 municipal election.
“We have led Vancouver. Rebecca Bligh should lead it next,” the group said in a joint statement. “Between us, we have represented several of the parties this city has produced. On plenty of issues, we still disagree. On this one, we don’t. Rebecca Bligh is the best choice to be Vancouver’s next mayor.”
“I’m honoured to have Mike, Peter and Geoff’s support. They know what this job demands and, despite their political differences, they agree that Vancouver is ready for new leadership,” said Bligh. “I’m also proud of the entire Vote Vancouver team, whose hard work over the past year has helped build our campaign and our plan for the city. People need a City Hall focused on their lives—whether they can afford a home, get to work or feel safe in their neighbourhood. As mayor, I will bring people together to make progress on these priorities.”
Harcourt, Ladner and Meggs cited Bligh’s leadership of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, her service on council since 2018 and her willingness to work across party lines and take an independent stand.
“Vancouver deserves a mayor who listens and hears them, and can work through disagreements and get the job done. Rebecca Bligh is that leader,” they said.
If elected, Bligh would become the first woman mayor in Vancouver’s 140-year history.
“Rebecca has earned our support through her experience, judgement and leadership. Electing her would give Vancouver a capable mayor and a long-overdue place in its history,” the three said.
Advance voting takes place October 3, 7, 10 and 13. General voting day is October 17.
